Language in Quebec: Legal and Societal Issues
|
| Abstract |
Beginning in 1974, the Quebec government passed legislation designed to make French the official and, in some cases, exclusive language of government and business, and to restrict access to English-language education. The net result has been a decline in the number of anglophones in Quebec and an increase in the number of Quebec anglophones who speak French at home.
