Extracts from Letters Written During a First Year's Residence in the Eastern Townships of Lower Canada
Abstract
The unidentified writer, purportedly a British immigrant, claims to have bought a 200 acre property, called Lowd Farm which he renamed Woodcote Place, in 1836 in Eaton Township, five miles from the village of Eaton Corner and two miles from Cookshire. He recounts to his family in England in a series of letters the life of a farmer in the 1830s Eastern Townships. The letters read like an advertisement for the British American Land Company.
