No Backward Steps: The Story of a Montreal Plumber
|
Abstract |
A biographical sketch of the London-born John William Hughes (b.1845) who immigrated to Montreal with his parents in 1849 and rose from being a plumber's apprentice to a master plumber and heating specialist, a founder and director of the Master Plumbers Association of Montreal, and a lecturer to architecture students at McGill University. He worked during a period of Montreal's history when indoor plumbing was just being introduced to most of the city.
