Abstract |
Maude Elizabeth Abbott (1869-1940), one of the first women to obtain a BA from McGill University, received her M.D., C.M. from Bishop's University in 1894 and became a world-famous expert on congenital heart disease. In 1897 Abbott opened an independent clinic in Montreal dedicated to treating women and children, focussing on the nature of heart disease, especially in newborn babies. In 1898, she was appointed Assistant Curator at the McGill Pathological Museum, becoming curator 1901. After a short stint as a Lecturer in Pathology at McGill in 1910, she returned to the university as an Assistant Professor in 1925. She retired in 1936.
