| Abstract |
Using as her focal points three booklets published by downtown Montreal synagogues (Beth David Congregation, Beth Yehuda Congregation and Congregation Anshei Ozeroff), the author examines how these religious institutions viewed themselves at particular times in their history. The author focuses on a range of subjects, including synagogue architecture, the development of Montreal's Jewish communal infrastructure, as well as the changes that affected devotional life in the city leading up to and after the Second World War.
