| Abstract |
A study of enterprise and entrepreneurship in a rural Eastern Townships village. Fitch Bay was founded in 1855. Timothy Byron Rider (1848 –1917) was a merchant who operated a sawmill and grist mill at Fitch Bay, as well as being a political figure in the area. He was the postmaster at Fitch Bay, a member of the town council for Stanstead, serving as mayor for eight years, and represented Stanstead in the House of Commons from 1891 to 1896 as a Liberal member.
