Ghosts of Griffintown: Stories of an Irish Neighbourhood
|
Abstract |
Griffintown, near the eastern end of the Lachine Canal, is where many Irish settled when they came to Montreal during the nineteenth century. In the 1940s, Griffintown’s population started to dwindle as residents moved up to better neighbourhoods. By the 1970s, urban re-development bulldozed whatever remained of the community.
