The Traitor and the Jew: Anti-Semitism and the Delirium of Extreme Right-Wing Nationalism in French Canada from 1929-1939
|
Abstract |
The author argues that anti-semitism was at the core of French Canadian nationalism during the interwar years. As an example, the author cites the fact that during this period, the intellectual Montreal newspaper, Le Devoir, ran at least 800 articles on Jews, most of them anti-semitic. Jews comprised about one percent of the Quebec population during this period and six percent of Montreal’s population.
