Title
Espace urbain et religion : esquisse d’une géographie des lieux de culte minoritaires de la région de Montréal
Abstract
An overview of the geography of places of worship of non-Roman Catholic, non-Protestant religions in Montreal. The authors examine some elements of the spatial strategies used by such ethno-religious groups as Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and Buddhists in the choices of location of their places of worship. The authors examine the regulatory framework for the siting and construction of places of worship at the municipal level. Drawing on fieldwork with Montreal's Hasidic and Muslim communities, they conclude by discussing some of the main issues involved in the establishment of minority places of worship in the city's urban landscape.
