Abstract |
The second of three longitudinal studies of migratory movements, in and out of Quebec, of one cohort of young Anglophones, those who left high school in Quebec in 1971. In 1971, there were 84 English language high schools in Quebec. The author's samples of 975 individuals is representative of all those who, in 1971, left an English language high school (graduated or dropped out after attaining legal leaving age). This sample was first contacted in 1976 and re-contacted twice subsequently, once in 1979 and again in 1982-1983. Although indicative of the migratory experience of one cohort only, those who left an English high school in 1971, the results constitute the only such longitudinal "panel" data presently available on the out-migration of young Anglophones from Quebec: one half had left eleven years after leaving high school, as had one-fifth of their parents.
