| Abstract |
A brief sketch of the Abbott family's association with McGill University. Joseph Abbott (1790-1862) was Bursar, Registrar and Secretary of McGill in the 1840s. His son, John Joseph Caldwell Abbott (1821-1893), was McGill's Dean of Law in the 1850s (and who went on to become Mayor of Montreal in the 1850s and Prime Minister of Canada in 1891). Joseph Abbott's grand-niece, Dr. Maude Abbott (1869-1940), was an Assistant Professor of Medical Research at McGill, an international authority on congenital heart disease, Curator of McGill's Medical History Museum and an historian of Quebec's medical profession.
