Les grandes gares ferroviaires du Québec 1888-1945
Abstract
The author considers the issues of symbolism and national identity represented by the works of architects in their designs of seven railway stations in Quebec, built over a sixty-year period. The Montreal stations examined are Thomas Seaton Scott's 1887-88 Bonaventure Station, Bruce Price's 1887-89 Windsor Station and his 1896-98 Viger Station, Colin Drewitt's 1931 Jean Talon (Park Avenue) Station, and John Schofield's 1943-45 Central Station. Also examined are Ross & Macdonald's 1924 Trois-Rivières train station, and Harry Edward Prindle's 1916 Gare du Palais in Quebec City.
