Le patrimoine de la famille et des entreprises Breakey : identification, conservation et mise en valeur : rapport de travail dirigé

Abstract |
The Breakey family, an Irish Protestant Quebec family who lived in the municipality of Breakeyville (today integrated within the city of Lévis), settled on the south shore of Quebec in the 1830s and worked in the wood trade (timber and later pulp and paper) for over a hundred years. The author examines the historical context in which the Breakey family evolved over several generations. This context, placing the Breakey family and Breakeyville's development in the historical fabric of the timber trade on the entire south shore of Quebec City, also highlights the story of an Anglo-Protestant family that made a fortune while employing mostly French Catholic workers.
