Title
Logiques au coeur des choix de l’école secondaire par des parents immigrants résidant à Montréal
Abstract
The author's research aims to better understand the motives at the heart of high school choices made by immigrant parents in the Montreal context. Her analysis reveals that immigrant parents try to articulate distinct, sometimes conflicting, logics to make their decision (Francophone vs Anglophone schools; private vs public schools). The author advances knowledge on considering the effects of social class, ethnocultural/racial belonging, as well as the particular relationship that immigrant parents have with the host society and its institutions on school choice motives. Her analysis reveals the (ir)relevance of social class as an analytical category for the motives of immigrant parents. As well, she highlights specific motives related to the relocation accompanying immigration, which are rarely addressed in the literature on school choice.
