A history of Canadian musical expressions and their relationship to Canada's cultural and geographic diversity. The author offers a chapter on "Music the British Brought to Canada", as well as a chapter on music clubs, organized since the late 1880s by women, to promote music, artists and musical knowledge in communities, including Montreal's Ladies' Morning Musical Club, founded in 1892 by Mary Bell and still in existence today.
