| Abstract |
As the Second World War raged across the Atlantic, jazz and cabaret made Montreal's St. Catherine Street vibrate. Located between Las Vegas and Paris, Montreal welcomed the greatest artists of the scene: Edith Piaf, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Alys Robi, Charlie Trenet, Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson and many others. But behind the curtains of the theaters, in the labyrinth of alleys of the Red Light district, were dark designs: illegal gambling, prostitution, and smuggling. A merciless struggle between organized crime and incorruptible forces begins, led by the young lawyer Pacific "Pax" Plante (1907-1976) and his crusade against organized crime, vice and corruption in Montreal.
