Abstract
Montreal's Mount Sinai's history dates to the hospital's inception in 1909 when members of the city's Jewish community recognized the need for a tuberculosis sanatorium. Mount Sinai began as a tuberculosis sanatorium in Prefontaine near Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, with a 12-bed facility. In the 1950s, the hospital's focus shifted to becoming an intermediate care facility specializing in respiratory diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, asthma and other chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. In 1990 Mount Sinai moved to Montreal in order to better serve the greater Montreal area. Mount Sinai Hospital is now a 107 bed, McGill University affiliated hospital.
