The First Years of Medical Practice: A Study of the Initiation of Medical Practice by Fifty-Two Montreal Jewish Physicians Graduated Since 1940
|
Abstract |
The author undertakes a sociological study of the medical profession, with specific reference to the patterns of behaviour exhibited by the young Jewish practitioners in Montreal, circa late 1950s, in their endeavour to establish a private practice. The author points out that every professional is faced with this initial problem of setting himself up in practice, and in large part, how successful he is in his professional pursuit will depend upon how successfully he has solved this problem. The author examines choosing an office, acquiring a hospital appointment, and initiating a private practice.
