The Early History of Medical Genetics in Canada
|
Abstract |
Includes information on the role played by Montreal's McGill University in genetic research, dating to the 1930s. Dr. F. Clarke Fraser joined the Department of Genetics in 1950 and began what has become recognized as a distinct discipline in genetics: teratogenetics (the study of genetic disposition to the action of environmental factors that results in birth defects). Fraser helped establish medical genetics at McGill and initiated a Division of Medical Genetics at The Montreal Children's Hospital.
