Title
Transferts et semi-transferts linguistiques au Québec d’après le recensement de 1981
Abstract
The author maintains that contrary to the controlled data on language use published by Statistics Canada following the 1981 census, which were treated so as to eliminate all cases of double, multiple, or missing answers, the mother-tongues and current home-languages actually declared by respondents showed a net anglicization of the French-language group in Quebec. He further maintains that the francization of Allophones fails to make up for the anglicization of Francophones, particularly among the population under 25 years of age. The author believes that contrary also to the controlled data, the actual answers to the language questions permit the observation of a phenomenon of bilingual behavior in the home, which, he argues, is in good agreement with the trends in linguistic assimilation established by the declared cases of language shift.
