L'émergence d'une artère commerciale : la rue Sainte-Catherine de Montréal, 1870-1913
|
Abstract |
An examination of the evolution of Montreal's St. Catherine Street from its decline as a residential area (from 1870 to 1890) to its transformation into a commercial artery with the establishment of department stores along the street after 1890. The author also examines the differences between the predominately Anglophone stores on the west end of St. Catherine (between Bleury and McGill College) and those on the predominately Francophone east end of the street (between Wolfe and Saint-Hubert).
