Entente cordiale? La section montréalaise du Fonds patriotique canadien, 1914-1923 : le bénévolat de guerre à Montréal
|
Abstract |
Montreal's Patriotic Fund, organized shortly after the outbreak of the First World War by such people as Herbert Ames, Helen Reid and Raoul Dandurand, reflected the evolving relationship between the city's Anglophone and Francophone elites, the growth of professionalism in social work and the limits of voluntarism in supporting the costs of war. The author points out that the three fundraising appeals by the Montreal Branch of the Patriotic Fund provide a surprising snapshot of French-English relations in the city at three different phases of the war.
