Abstract |
The following policy brief was presented to the Commission de la culture et de l’éducation in the Fall of 2024 by Concordia University’s Quebec English-Speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN) as part of the Quebec Government’s consultations on the creation of a new Musée national de l’histoire du Québec (loi no 64, Loi instituant le Musée national de l’histoire du Québec). The following recommendations were made in the policy brief: That the museum dedicate a significant portion of its content to perspectives from English-speaking Quebec; That the museum present a nuanced, complex, and realistic vision of the various linguistic and cultural communities in Quebec, integrating multiple voices and perspectives; That the museum go beyond the usual focus on a ruling anglophone elite to highlight the voices of ordinary English-speaking people and community leaders in various regions; and That the government ensure experts on English-speaking Quebec are represented in the museum's governance, as well as in the writing and approval of the museum content.
