The Cultural Effects of Population Changes in the Eastern Townships
|
Abstract |
An exploration of the effects of "ethnic invasion" on the morale of an existing community. The author studied the attitudes of English-speaking residents to the French Canadian "invasion" of the predominately Anglophone Eastern Townships of Compton, Richmond, Sherbrooke and Stanstead, with particular emphasis on the village of Sawyerville in Compton County. The "ethnic invasion" placed the English speakers in a minority position.
