Abstract |
Beginning with the history of education and teacher training in New France, the author goes on to examine the attempts to establish national schools after 1763 and the teacher training required for these schools. His account ends with a description of the opening of three Normal Schools in 1857 (McGill and Jacques Cartier in Montreal and Laval in Quebec City). Included are accounts of English-French relations within the educational field.
