| Abstract |
A short biography of Alice Schuyler Lighthall (1891-1991), a member of Westmount's prominent Lighthall family. Ms Lighthall sat on the board of the Canadian Guild of Crafts, the Woman’s Art Association, the Montreal Council of Women, and was a founding member of the Westmount Historical Association. She was a strong advocate for preserving Westmount's heritage buildings, and is best remembers for her work in 1955 saving the Hurtubise house, a 1739 stone farmhouse, fron destruction. Ms. Lighthall's father was William Douw Lighthall (1857-1954), a lawyer, philosopher, poet and mayor of Westmount (1901-1903).
