Abstract |
The author contrasts the English-language newspaper The Montreal Gazette between 1845 and 1850 and the French language newspaper La Minerve for 1846 to compare how city fires were reported in each. According to The Gazette, there were ninety-seven separate fires encompassing 376 burned buildings during the five-year period under review.
