Le traitement du judaïsme dans les manuels scolaires d’éthique et culture religieuse au Québec contribue-t-il à un meilleur vivre-ensemble ?

Abstract |
The authors analyze how Judaism is presented in Quebec’s Ethics and Religious Culture textbooks at the secondary school level and focus on it’s potential contribution to a better living-together in Quebec society. Specifically, the authors discuss the status and significance attributed to local manifestations of Judaism, both in Quebec’s religious heritage and in the practice of the religion. The textbooks’ predilection towards an image of Judaism as a foreign religion is also discussed. The authors conclude that by choosing to promote the image of a universal, neutral and out-of-context Judaism, textbooks fail to integrate it into Quebec society and do not contribute enough to a better living together.
