Abstract |
The examination by the author of the work of eight artists constitutes a skeletal survey of Montreal art between the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s. She situates the work of a balanced (English/French, male/female) group of artists within an artistic discourse which takes into consideration postmodern culture, technology and historic ties to Europe. The formalism derived from such historicism gives rise to what she calls the "historical ruse" wherein the future of art currently lies.
