Abstract |
This report is a follow-up to the Commission's 1992 report to the Ministre de l’Éducation. The Commission examines the Ministry's policy statement, "L’école, tout un programme," which calls for the enhancement of the cultural content of the curriculum in order to promote academic achievement. This report makes 27 recommendations, including: that English school boards develop policies and procedures to identify and preserve the geographic, demographic and social "space" needed to enhance cultural content in English schools; that English school boards develop their list of common priorities regarding the place of culture in English-language elementary and secondary schools in Quebec; that the Ministère de l'Éducation ensure intensive collaboration in the development of social studies and citizenship education programs that reflect both a common reality and the particular history of English-speaking Quebec; and that the Ministère de l'Éducation and school boards hire teachers and other professionals to prepare materials on the cultural heritage of Quebec's English-speaking communities.
