Abstract |
An examination of the relations in Montreal between the descendants of European-born Ashkenazi Jews, who integrated into the city's English-speaking community, and the French-speaking descendants of North African-born Sephardi Jews. The author also examines the impact of Quebec's language policies on relations between these two Jewish communities. Although the English-speaking Jews control the affairs of the Jewish community in the city, the author predicts that differences between the two communities will disappear as the Anglophone Jews are assimilated into French Quebec.
