Abstract |
The author examines the 1842 Literary Copyright Act on the British North American book trade, He points out that, in the 1840s, Montreal was the undisputed centre of the book trade for the Canadas, if not for all the BNA colonies. In 1843-44, there were 16 booksellers, stationers, and bookbinders, 15 printing offices, two engravers, and one type-foundry agency in the city.
