Abstract
The story of the museum on Montreal's Île Sainte-Hélène and the role of its founder, businessman and philanthropist David Macdonald Stewart (1921-1984). Stewart founded the private museum in 1955, housed in the Arsenal of the military depot built on the island by the British between 1820 and 1824. The role of the museum is to preserve, promote and disseminate Quebec heritage, from the arrival of European settlers in the sixteenth century to the present.
