Abstract |
The biography of the American-born Charles Fleetford Sise (1834-1918), the founding president of the Montreal-based Bell Telephone Company of Canada. Sise, a former U.S. representative of the Royal Canadian Insurance Company of Montreal, immigrated to Quebec in 1880 to establish a telephone company on behalf of the National Bell Telephone Company of Boston, MA. Sise was also on the Board of Directors of the Northern Electric and Manufacturing Company (which eventually became Nortel Networks Corporation) from 1895 to 1918. Northern Electric was a spin-off company of Bell Telephone. Sise's two sons were successive presidents of Northern Electric from 1919 to 1948.
