Sidney Dawes and the McGill Museum of Canadian Art
Abstract
Sidney Dawes (1888-1968) was a Montreal industrialist and graduate of McGill University. Dawes wanted McGill to have an art gallery, and the university received sixty-four Canadian paintings from the industrialist to form the nucleus of an art collection. The collection contained more than eleven hundred works when this article was written in 1992. The author includes a complete catalogue of the original Dawes donation.
