The Linguistic Survey of the Ottawa Valley
|
Abstract |
An examination of the English spoken in the 1970s in communities on the Ontario and Quebec side of the Ottawa River between Lac des Deux Montaignes and Algonquin Park. The area in Quebec examined was Argenteuil County. The authors point out that the English spoken in this area is thought to be a blend of Scottish and Irish types, with Irish characteristics predominating. The English spoken is sometimes referred to as Ottawa valley "twang" or Ottawa Valley "brogue."
