Political Economy and Community: A Study of Montreal West
|
Abstract |
A community study of the predominantly English-speaking town of Montreal West between 1890 and 1920. The author points out that railways were instrumental in the establishment and development of the town, initially known as Montreal Junction. The cultural background of the first residents of Montreal West was tied to their immigration from Great Britain (Scotland and England), and the institutions and social structures which they established in Montreal West reflected this background.
