Dollars and Change: The Effect of Rockefeller Foundation Funding on Canadian Medical Education at the University of Toronto, McGill University and Dalhousie University
Abstract
The Rockefeller Foundation gift of $5 million in 1920 had a lasting effect on the “scientization” of medical education in Canada. By examining three medical schools, including McGill University, the author outlines the differences and similarities in the way the individual grants were received, used to change curricula, and used to bring in other government and private funding.
