Abstract |
The University Magazine (1907-1920) and its predecessor, The McGill University Magazine (1901-1906), were pioneering academic journals of opinion. The mandate of the quarterly University Magazine was to "express an educated opinion upon questions immediately concerning Canada; and to treat freely in a literary way all matters which have to do with politics, industry, philosophy, science and art." The University Magazine's long-time editor was Sir Andrew Macphail (1864-1938), journalist, physician, essayist and soldier. Macphail taught the History of Medicine at McGill University from 1907 until 1937.
