Abstract
Between 1969 and 1978, Montreal poet Irving Layton (1912-2006) was teaching at Toronto's York University. During this period when, the author points out, Layton had "both physically and poetically" left Montreal, she looks back at the poet's work "to see what he made of the city - and what it made of him."
