Abstract |
A photographic look at the slum clearances that took place in Montreal during the 1950s and 1960s. One of the areas cleared was Goose Village, originally a working-class Irish-Montreal neighbourhood, later adopted by Italian immigrants, located on six streets in the southwest part of the city, adjacent to Victoria Bridge. The area was demolished in 1964 to make way for the Autostate, one of the legacies of Expo 67. Today, some of the area of the former Goose Village is a Costco parking lot.
