Les jeunes dans les écoles de langue anglaise de la région de Montréal et leur rapport à l’identité
|
| Abstract |
The author examines the sense of "identity" and sense of belonging by youth in English-language schools in the Montreal area. Her analysis is based on the sociological understanding that identity is a social construct, which is complex, always evolving and constantly changing. Based on the results of an ethnographic study with youth from two English-speaking high schools, the author determined two major findings. First, the majority of the participants reported having multilingual identities. Second, a power struggle is waged over language in Quebec and the participants experienced it on a daily basis.
