The Jewish Community of Quebec Province: Bridging The Past And The Present
|
Abstract |
An examination of Montreal's Jewish community's reaction to the election of the Parti Québécois in 1976, and to its future in Quebec. The author is critical of the Jewish community's leadership of the 1970s, characterizing it as "unable to emerge as risk-taking, direction-providing, and most important, unable to demonstrate a sense of confidence in themselves and the future of the community." He suggests that with proper leadership the community may be able to address these issues and strike the right balance between integration and strength of identity.
