Abstract |
Using the staple theory as the basis for her study, the author outlines the political, social and economic development of Hull Township in the first half of the nineteenth century. The timber trade was the main industry of the area and the American-born Philemon Wright (1760-1839) and his descendants were the main entrepreneurs during this period. Until the 1880s, the majority of the population of Hull Township was English-speaking.
