An Elegant Band of Music: Music in Canada in the 18th Century
|
Abstract |
The author points out that an intimate glimpse of musical life in eighteenth century Canada can be gleaned from a number of primary sources including the writings of Elizabeth Simcoe and other visitors to Canada, newspapers, and church records. He points out that the citizens of Quebec City and Montreal were often treated to concerts, opera performances and balls, produced locally and involving the participation of amateurs with the support of the musicians from British Army garrison bands.
