Utiliser l’histoire des Cantons-de-l’Est pour intégrer la communauté anglophone au programme d’histoire du Québec et du Canada

Abstract |
The author outlines the reaction within various English Quebec organizations to the controversial 2017 History of Quebec and Canada secondary school course of studies that focuses primarily on French Quebecers and, when mentioned at all, confines English Quebecers to the status of foreigners in the province. The author offers a guide for teachers by using the cultural memory of the English-speaking community of the Eastern Townships as an object of history. Her guide provides teachers with the foundations of a theoretical model that will allow them to promote the historical thinking of all students by allowing the students to think critically about how history is constructed.
