Remarks on the Petition of the Convention and on the Petition of the Constitutionalists. By Anti-Bureaucrat
Abstract
The Scottish-born Adam Thom (1802-1890), editor of the Montreal Herald, opposed the anti-commercial and pro-democratic tendencies of French Canadian leaders, and the British government's policy of "conciliation" towards them. Using the pen-name "Anti-Bureaucratic", Thom reviewed and criticized what he believed was the groundless nature of the French Canadian grievances contained in the Patriotes' 92 Resolutions. These grievances later led to the Rebellion of 1837 in Lower Canada.
