An examination of the post-Conquest change in legal metropolis (from France to Britain) on the process of transfer and adaptation of a European legal system to the colony of Lower Canada. The author also examines the ethnic conflict between French- and English-speaking Lower Canadians which prevented any modernization of the law not inspired by British legal principles.
