Écrire-traduire entre les langues : Les effets de traduction et de bilinguisme dans les romans de Gail Scott
|
Abstract |
The author provides an analysis, from a translation-studies perspective, on translation and bilingualism as writing effects in the novels of Montreal author Gail Scott. Defined as daily experience, as self-reflective practice and as tropes, the effects of translation and bilingualism derive both from the "minoritized" English used by Scott and from the use of fragments — or even entire passages — written in French. The author argues that the goal is to examine the way in which these effects are inscribed, the images/values they convey, and the aesthetic, ideological and ethical postures they imply in relation to cultural and linguistic otherness.
