|
Abstract |
The author examines the effects of an increase in ethnic diversity within elected assemblies based on in-depth interviews with elected municipal officials from ethnic groups in the city of Montreal. The author interviewed seven men and four women. All the men came from European immigration and were mostly Jews and Italians, the women belonged to visible minorities - Arab, West Asians and Blacks. Only one person was of French mother tongue, the others having first learned Italian, Russian, Armenian or English.
